Executive Fundraising Assistant Job Description

Role Description:

Build Power Strategies is a social justice consulting firm seeking an Executive Fundraising Assistant to support Kirstie Kimball in her work of building the better world for all of us. The Executive Fundraising Assistant will be Kirstie’s right hand and will help her clear time from her schedule to focus on client work, through a combination of administrative and development tasks. Strong applicants will have a dedication to the issues of the organizations BPS supports and a desire to join a growing consultancy rooted in justice.

BPS helps progressive non-profits fundraise, create strong data systems, and engage in thriving cultures. Clients focus on a range of issues from electing progressives to fighting for healthcare for all to organizing against apartheid to pushing for an end to mandatory minimum sentences. Kirstie is the sole owner and consultant at the company, which is often booked out 4-6 months in advance. Clients are used to high touch, warm, and timely communications from Kirstie. From time to time, BPS supports clients in crisis situations which require immediate attention. 

The Executive Fundraising Assistant will work 10 hours a week, with occasional opportunities to pick up additional work if desired as they pick up skills for the role. Key skills for this role include attention to detail, project management, and independence. Strong preference is given to people who have previously worked in the movement, in or outside of development.

Responsibilities, admin, 70%

  • Managing all scheduling of meetings for Build Power Strategies 

  • Organizing client files

  • Creating a to do list management system and updating it 

  • Drafting and sending out invoices

  • Review of emails or documents

  • Filing of receipts and setting up very basic Quickbooks structure

  • Weekly 1-1 meetings with Kirstie to go over schedule 

Responsibilities, fundraising, 30%

  • Basic prospecting support like looking up FEC data, social media accounts, or past giving history (no analysis, just research) 

  • Basic foundation prospecting support such as looking up a similar organization and seeing who funds them (no analysis, just research)

  • Taking information from multiple sources and formatting them into donor profiles

  • Creating presentations for client trainings

Requirements

  • 1+ years in development or admin work

  • Commitment to the mission of Build Power Strategies, with relevant movement experience preferred 

  • Proven project management and research skills

  • Ability and willingness to sign non disclosure agreements for clients

Preferred qualifications

  • 2+ years in a paid role in movement work

  • An understanding of the distinction between c3/c4/PAC fundraising

  • Knowledge of the work of at least some of our current clients

  • Ability to work 3 hours every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday between the hours of 10am-4pm EST, with a preference for 10am-1pm and one hour every Tuesday

  • Eastern time zone

Details:

  • Compensation: $27 an hour to start, with annual raises 

  • Hours: 40 hours a month, with occasional opportunities for increased hours on specific projects 

  • Position location: remote

  • Start date: flexible 

  • Benefits: 3 weeks prorated paid combined sick and vacation days

  • Holidays: work can be adjusted on holiday weeks to avoid holidays, holidays can be mutually agreed upon based on personal observances of applicant (i.e. Kirstie is Jewish and does not observe Christmas, but considers shabbat a holiday)
